DWP Publishes Full Lists of Conditions That May Qualify for PIP

DWP’s register clarifies which diagnoses can be considered for Personal Independence Payment by focusing decisions on claimants’ ability to carry out everyday tasks.

Overview

  • The DWP’s published register covers more than 500 specific and umbrella health-condition entries that assessors may use when deciding PIP entitlement.
  • The department confirmed on Thursday that it has published a complete list of 25 stomach and intestinal conditions with 40,458 successful PIP claims recorded for those diagnoses.
  • PIP is paid in two parts — daily living and mobility — and those awarded the enhanced rate for both receive up to £194.90 a week, which equals about £748 a month after April’s 3.8% uprating.
  • Awards are based on how a condition affects daily function rather than the diagnosis alone so two people with the same condition can receive different decisions and award levels.
  • DWP data from an October 2024 snapshot show success rates vary widely by condition, with some conditions above 80%, and external analyses point to regional differences in claimant rates across the UK.
