Overview

  • The DWP has published comprehensive lists of 87 musculoskeletal and 25 gastrointestinal conditions that qualify individuals for Personal Independence Payment support.
  • PIP remains a non-means-tested, tax-free benefit with weekly rates of £73.90 or £110.40 for daily living and £29.20 or £77.05 for mobility, paid every four weeks and capped at £749.80 for combined enhanced awards.
  • A record 3.74 million people in England and Wales were claiming PIP as of April 2025, including more than 36,300 for gastrointestinal conditions.
  • Eligibility for PIP requires at least three months of daily living or mobility difficulties expected to last nine months and UK residency of two of the past three years, with no National Insurance or income thresholds.
  • PIP assessments can take place face-to-face, via video call, telephone, or on paper and applicants need to provide evidence of how their conditions affect everyday tasks.
