Overview

  • As of the end of April, the Department for Work and Pensions has opened reviews on about 420,000 Personal Independence Payment claims, covering 380,000 award reassessments and 40,000 updates for changed circumstances.
  • Claimants need to notify the DWP only for key changes such as overseas stays over four weeks, significant shifts in support needs, or updates to personal details to keep payments uninterrupted.
  • Combining PIP or Scotland’s Adult Disability Payment with Universal Credit or income-related Jobseeker’s Allowance can raise eligible single recipients’ awards to as much as £1,149.94 per month, depending on the component rates.
  • Entitlement to PIP unlocks access to a broad suite of passported benefits, including council tax discounts, Blue Badge parking, free prescriptions, discounted rail travel, capped water bills and participation in the Motability scheme.
  • While the government plans to tighten PIP eligibility from November 2026 as part of a wider £5 billion welfare savings package, all existing claimants will continue to receive their established benefits without interruption.
