DWP July Figures Show PIP and ADP Support 4.31 Million People

An award can unlock other benefits and may backdate certain entitlements to the start of a claim.

Overview

  • The DWP reports more than 3.8 million PIP claimants at end-July and a combined PIP+ADP caseload of 4,311,058, up about 2% since April.
  • England and Wales account for 3,821,354 PIP claimants, while Scotland’s replacement benefit, Adult Disability Payment, covers a further 484,055 people.
  • Thirty-seven percent of claimants receive the highest award, with weekly rates ranging from £29.20 to £187.45 (£116.80 to £749.80 every four weeks).
  • Psychiatric disorders make up the largest condition group for PIP awards (39%), followed by musculoskeletal conditions (general and regional) at 31%, neurological at 13% and respiratory at 4%.
  • GOV.UK guidance says PIP/ADP can passport claimants to other benefits and some may be backdated, and it reminds claimants to report specified changes such as hospital stays or long trips abroad but not employment status.
