DWP Highlights Longer PIP Awards for Six Condition Groups as Caseload Hits Record

Officials released condition-level statistics to explain which cases receive longer-term support.

Overview

  • More than 3.7 million people are entitled to PIP across Great Britain as of 30 April 2025, with regional reports citing about 70,000 recent additions in England and Wales.
  • Visual, musculoskeletal (general and regional), neurological, respiratory, and autoimmune connective tissue disorders hold the highest shares of awards lasting five years or longer.
  • Award lengths run from nine months to ongoing status with a light touch review up to every 10 years, and most awards are still reviewed regularly to maintain appropriate support.
  • Guidance reminds claimants to report changes such as hospital stays or publicly funded care beyond 28 days, trips abroad over four weeks, or detention, with penalties or court action possible for failing to report.
  • Newly published datasets include a confirmed list of 86 musculoskeletal diseases with active claims, and 2025/26 rates can total up to £749.80 every four weeks for those on the highest components.
