Overview

• The Department for Work and Pensions confirmed the Personal Independence Payment review now covers the mobility component and the gateway entitlements it unlocks, including the Motability Scheme and Blue Badges.
• The review will be co‑produced with disability organisations under Sir Stephen Timms, with completion expected by next autumn.
• No immediate rule changes have been introduced, so current entitlement criteria and 2025/26 payment rates continue to apply, with combined enhanced awards worth up to £749.80 every four weeks.
• The DWP has published a list of 178 medical conditions associated with active PIP awards and reported 3,744,671 claims across the UK as of April 2025.
• PIP’s enhanced mobility rate can be used to lease vehicles through Motability, which has about 815,000 customers, and there are more than 3.2 million Blue Badge holders nationwide.
