Overview

  • The introduction of tougher PIP eligibility criteria for new claimants originally scheduled for November 2026 will be postponed pending Sir Stephen Timms’s co-produced review of assessment processes.
  • PIP and Scotland’s Adult Disability Payment will be uprated next April based on September’s consumer price index inflation, with a potential 3.6% increase adding up to £6.70 per week to higher awards.
  • Claimants retain access to mandatory reconsiderations and tribunal appeals with options for face-to-face, video, telephone or written hearings.
  • More than 3.7 million people in Great Britain currently receive PIP, with over 476,200 Scottish recipients of ADP, and growth driven by ageing demographics and chronic health trends.
  • Targeted outreach is under way to boost awareness among under-claimed groups such as people with vision impairment who may qualify for the enhanced mobility rate of £77.05 weekly.
