Overview
- More than 3.7 million people across Great Britain currently receive PIP, with the department noting unprecedented volumes of new claims earlier this year.
- About 11% of recipients may be underpaid, which the DWP equates to roughly 402,500 people and £1.06bn in unfulfilled eligibility.
- Officials say 420,000 claims are being checked, including 380,000 award reviews and 40,000 change-of-circumstance cases.
- PIP pays £29.20 to £187.45 a week (£116.80 to £749.80 every four weeks) and is legally uprated by September CPI; if July’s 3.8% CPI rate persisted, the top four‑week award would be about £778.20, which remains a projection until the Autumn Budget.
- Planned eligibility tightening has been postponed pending a co-produced review of PIP assessments led by Sir Stephen Timms.
