Overview
- Germany’s weather service has active nationwide alerts for icy conditions, with a preliminary severe-weather notice for southern Bavaria early Monday (00:00–12:00).
- Snow, sleet and freezing rain arrive from Sunday afternoon and evening, first from the northwest into the west and southwest, then spreading overnight toward the east and south including Berlin and Brandenburg.
- Police report numerous crashes in southern Bavaria since the weekend, mostly with property damage and some minor injuries, and urge reduced speed and proper winter tyres.
- Forecasts call for a thin fresh-snow cover of about 1–3 cm in many areas, locally 1–5 cm in parts of northern Bavaria and 5–10 cm in the Upper Palatinate and northern Bavarian Forest, with glaze risk varying by location.
- Authorities caution that freezing rain on deeply frozen ground could produce locally severe ice in southern Bavaria, while conditions are expected to moderate on Tuesday except for continuing snowfall near the Alps.
