Overview
- The second phase will involve 244 garages capturing images of vehicles during MOTs for upload to the MOT Testing Service.
- An earlier six-week pilot across 62 sites with about 170 testers produced over 13,000 photos and saw the busiest locations reach a 90.2% upload success rate.
- Photos are attached to each vehicle’s MOT record to confirm it was present for the test, with the DVSA stressing that fraud is committed by a small minority.
- Drivers will not be individually notified when images are taken, test stations must display an updated VT9A poster, and images are retained for 13 months unless needed as evidence.
- The DVSA says participating garages are continuing to use the system as it refines software, gathers feedback and prepares for a phased rollout, with images also informing fraud investigations.
