Overview

  • Drivers can now use Apple Pay or Google Pay through a new payment partner when issued Fixed Penalty Notices at the roadside.
  • The DVSA issues FPNs for a wide range of offences including driver’s hours breaches, vehicle defects, licensing lapses and load or emissions violations.
  • On-the-spot settlements cover fines from £50 to £300, court deposits and immobilisation fees, with multiple penalties potentially applied in one stop.
  • Vehicles may be immobilised until issues are resolved or fines paid, and overseas drivers could face on-the-spot deposit requirements.
  • The agency expects the mobile wallet option to speed up payments and simplify the process for smartphone users.
