DVLA Warns Theory Test Candidates to Bring UK Licence or Face Cancellation Without Refund

The message restates existing rules to reduce last-minute cancellations.

Overview

  • Candidates are told their theory test will be cancelled without refund if they do not present their UK driving licence at the test centre.
  • Learners must be recognisable from the photo on their licence and should update the photo if it no longer matches their appearance.
  • Anyone who has changed their name since booking must bring legal proof such as a marriage certificate or deed poll or cancel and rebook using their new licence number.
  • The current fee is £23 for car and motorcycle theory tests, with lorry and bus components priced at £26 (part 1a), £11 (part 1b) and £23 (part 2), and eligibility requires at least 185 days’ residency in England, Wales or Scotland in the previous 12 months.
  • In a separate advisory, DVLA urges drivers to set up a GOV.UK driver and vehicles account for vehicle tax reminders, warning of penalties up to £1,000 and potential clamping or seizure for non-payment.
