• Failing to notify the agency of an address change can result in a penalty of up to £1,000.
• Updating a licence address is free online or by post, and drivers may continue to drive while waiting for a new card.
• Online V5C changes are unavailable if the log book is lost or already sent, the vehicle is in the DVLA fleet scheme, or the new address is overseas including the Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Ireland.
• Students and others at temporary addresses do not need to register them if reachable at a permanent address, and officials advise using the GOV.UK service rather than third‑party sites.
