Overview

  • The biannual update will assign the '75' identifier to vehicles registered from September 1 through February 2026.
  • DVLA rules specify reflective plates with black characters on white at the front and yellow at the rear, no background patterns, supplier identification and the BS AU 145e mark for plates fitted after September 1, 2021.
  • Plates fitted after September 1, 2021 must use a single shade of black for characters, with 3D characters, approved flags and a green EV flash permitted.
  • Valuation specialists report the DVLA review has already removed hundreds of potentially offensive or politically sensitive '75' combinations, with examples including BA75 ARD, OR75 GY and SH75 TTY.
  • Motorpoint’s Tim Rodie cautions that the influx of new cars can depress used values and advises sellers to complete sales before September 1.
