Overview

  • The DVLA has published the full list of 464 combinations barred from the September 1 ’75’ registration series after its biannual screening.
  • The banned list covers references to violence, drugs, crime, discrimination, political messages, explicit slang and sexual innuendo.
  • The similarity of the digit 5 to the letter S prompted the removal of suggestive combinations such as BO75 OCK, BL75 JOB and DR75 NKY.
  • Drivers displaying prohibited plates risk fines up to £1,000, warnings, MOT failures, plate confiscation or even vehicle seizure.
  • Auctions of approved, desirable plates begin at £250, with bidding open for personalized nicknames, initials and phrases.
