Dutch Election Tightens as D66 and PVV Finish Neck and Neck

Near-final tallies point to a fragmented parliament that will force complex coalition talks.

Overview

  • Dutch broadcaster NOS projections based on about 98% of votes counted put D66 and the PVV at roughly 26 seats each, with the VVD tracking close behind.
  • Ipsos/I&O exit polling showed the PVV falling sharply from its 2023 high, a setback Geert Wilders acknowledged even as he pledged to press on.
  • The CDA stages a notable recovery toward about 18–19 seats and JA21 climbs to around 9, while NSC appears to lose almost all of its representation.
  • GroenLinks–PvdA lands near 20 seats in the projections, and party leader Frans Timmermans announced he will step down after the disappointing result.
  • Regional results diverge from the national picture, with Amsterdam provisionally favoring GroenLinks–PvdA and several municipalities still led by the PVV despite declines, as official certification follows in early November.
