Duke University Appoints Manny Diaz as New Head Football Coach
Former Penn State Defensive Coordinator and Miami Head Coach Returns to ACC
- Duke University has hired Manny Diaz, the former defensive coordinator for Penn State and ex-Miami head coach, as its new head football coach.
- Diaz replaces Mike Elko, who left Duke to become the head coach at Texas A&M.
- Diaz, 49, had a 21-15 record as head coach of Miami from 2019-21 and was defensive coordinator at Penn State where he led the nation's top statistical defense.
- Diaz's appointment marks his return to the Atlantic Coast Conference and the state of North Carolina, where he spent six seasons on Chuck Amato's staff at North Carolina State.
- Duke's football team is scheduled to face Troy in the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 23, with associate head coach Trooper Taylor serving as the interim coach.
