Overview
- Autobahn A40 closes tonight, 7 January at 21:00, until 12 January at 05:00 between Kreuz Kaiserberg and Kreuz Duisburg toward Venlo, with the A3-to-A40 ramp from direction Arnhem also shut.
- Deutsche Bahn blocks the rail corridor under the interchange from 9 January at 21:00 to 6 February at 21:00, removing long-distance services between Düsseldorf and Essen and rerouting ICE trains.
- During the rail blockade, no long-distance trains stop in Duisburg or Oberhausen, around a dozen regional lines face cancellations or diversions, and replacement buses run between Duisburg–Essen and Duisburg–Oberhausen.
- Further motorway closures follow with the A3 northbound shut nights from 16–19 January and a two-week A40 closure toward Essen from 19 January at 21:00 to 2 February at 05:00 for traffic layout changes, structure removals and resurfacing.
- Detours are signposted and drivers are urged to avoid the area and allow extra time, with several ramp connections remaining closed until at least mid-2027 and another multi-week rail shutdown planned for the autumn holidays.
