Overview
- Deutsche Bahn confirmed a four‑week shutdown through the Duisburg hub from Jan. 9 (21:00) to Feb. 6 (21:00), disrupting long‑distance and regional services across the Ruhr–Rhein corridor.
- Many ICE trains will be rerouted or cut short, with Berlin services terminating in Essen and Hamburg trains diverted via Wuppertal, leaving fewer direct capital connections from Düsseldorf and Cologne.
- RRX lines RE1, RE6 and RE11 will divert to end in Oberhausen; RE2 and RE42 have no trains between Essen and Duisburg; RB33 and S1 segments are suspended; RE3 is canceled between Oberhausen and Düsseldorf; and RE5 is rerouted without stops at Düsseldorf Airport and Benrath.
- Replacement buses will run extensively, including roughly 10‑minute intervals between Essen, Mülheim and Duisburg and on the Duisburg–Oberhausen link.
- The S6, slated to return on Dec. 14 via Ratingen between Essen and Düsseldorf, is positioned as a key alternative, and DB directs travelers to its online journey planner for current routing.
