Duckworth Fires Staffer Accused of Impersonating Immigration Lawyer at ICE Facility

Her office denies authorizing the behavior, leaving ICE to determine any next steps.

Overview

  • In a letter to Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons, Duckworth said the employee’s job was terminated effective Nov. 17, 2025.
  • ICE alleges the staffer, identified as Edward York, entered the St. Louis field office on Oct. 29, claimed to be the detainee’s attorney and used a falsified DHS form to gain access.
  • The agency says York met Jose Ismael Ayuzo Sandoval and secured his signature on a G-28, then a Collinsville firm later e-filed a G-28 lacking Sandoval’s signature.
  • Duckworth wrote that neither she nor her leadership team knew of or authorized the conduct, responding by the deadline ICE had set.
  • ICE has not said whether York will face criminal charges, after citing surveillance, records checks and a local Democrats’ Facebook post in raising concerns.
