Duckworth Fires Aide After ICE Alleges He Posed as Immigration Lawyer

ICE alleges the aide posed as an attorney using falsified paperwork to access a detainee.

Overview

  • Sen. Tammy Duckworth told ICE that her office terminated Constituent Outreach Coordinator Edward York effective Nov. 17 and said neither she nor her leadership authorized his actions.
  • ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons alleged York entered the St. Louis ICE field office on Oct. 29, claimed to represent detainee Jose Ismael Ayuzo Sandoval, and sought his release.
  • Lyons said York obtained a signed Form G-28 from the detainee and that a Collinsville law office later e-filed a G-28 lacking the detainee’s signature.
  • DHS identified the detainee as a 40-year-old Mexican national with four prior removals and a DUI conviction who was arrested Oct. 29 in Staunton, Illinois.
  • ICE publicized surveillance video and social media posts about the incident, asked Duckworth for answers by Monday, reported no record of York as a licensed Illinois attorney, and has not announced criminal charges.
