Overview

• Sophie undertook a four-day, high-security visit from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2 at the UK Foreign Office’s request, traveling to Beni and Kinshasa.
• In Beni, she sat barefoot with survivors in a hospital tent and observed MONUSCO jungle training that included landmine detection and first-aid demonstrations.
• At Kinshasa’s Panzi Clinic, she watched Nobel laureate Dr. Denis Mukwege perform surgery on a five-year-old girl who survived rape.
• She toured a UK-supported Danish Refugee Council safe space and met women who endured sexual violence during the Makala prison mass escape.
• She appealed for support in a speech at the British embassy, visited Kintambo General Hospital with Prime Minister Judith Suminwa, and met President Félix Tshisekedi.
