Dubai Unveils Plan for 6,500 km Walkway Network with Air-Conditioned Paths

The ambitious Dubai Walk masterplan aims to transform the city into a pedestrian-friendly hub by 2040, featuring elevated paths, enhanced connectivity, and increased green spaces.

  • The Dubai Walk masterplan includes 6,500 kilometers (4,000 miles) of pedestrian walkways, with 3,300 kilometers of new paths and 2,300 kilometers of renovated existing pathways.
  • A key feature is the Future Loop, a 2-kilometer elevated walkway with 30,000 square meters of air-conditioned space and shaded outdoor areas for year-round use.
  • The project aims to increase pedestrian mobility from 13% to 25% by 2040, connecting major landmarks like the Burj Khalifa, Museum of the Future, and Dubai World Trade Centre.
  • Additional infrastructure includes 110 pedestrian bridges and underpasses, as well as improved cycling routes and public transport options to enhance urban connectivity.
  • Part of Dubai's Quality of Life Strategy 2033, the initiative supports the 20-minute city goal, ensuring 80% of residents can access essential services within a 20-minute commute.
