Dubai Opens Phase I of Hessa Street Upgrade, Adding Lanes and New Bridges

The AED 690 million program is 90% complete with final works scheduled by the second quarter to double capacity to 16,000 vehicles per hour.

Overview

  • RTA opened the first phase on a 4.5 km stretch between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road.
  • The corridor now features four lanes in each direction with new bridges at Al Asayel Street, First Al Khail Street, and Sheikh Zayed Road.
  • Officials said remaining road works, intersection upgrades, and active-mobility elements are slated to finish by Q2 2026.
  • The completed scheme will raise throughput from roughly 8,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour across Hessa Street.
  • A 13.5 km cycling and e-scooter track will link Al Sufouh to Dubai Hills via dedicated bridges, serving fast-growing areas including Al Sufouh 2, Al Barsha, and Jumeirah Village Circle.
