Dubai Opens 300-Metre Sheikh Zayed Road Bridge for Direct Mall of the Emirates Access

RTA says the new link cuts approach times to about one minute, supporting wider Umm Suqeim corridor upgrades.

Overview

  • The single-lane structure is designed for up to 900 vehicles per hour, giving motorists from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali direct access to the mall’s car parks.
  • The rollout included widening the southbound ramp at the Umm Suqeim junction, upgrading the junction, improving 2.5 km of at-grade roads, and optimizing six signalised intersections.
  • Local changes converted the road beside the Kempinski Hotel from one-way to two-way traffic and upgraded pedestrian walkways and cycling tracks for safer movement.
  • The Mall of the Emirates Metro Station bus station was modified, with additional works covering new road surfaces, lighting, traffic signals, stormwater drainage, and landscaping.
  • The bridge forms part of the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, which will add four bridges and two tunnels totaling 3.45 km and follows an 800-metre tunnel opened in August, as the mall pursues a AED5bn expansion adding about 20,000 sqm and up to 100 outlets.
