Dubai Awards Dh2 Billion Contract for 12km Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor

The RTA says the corridor will cut congestion on east–west routes, opening access for new developments.

Overview

  • Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority awarded the Dh2 billion contract and formally launched the Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor project on Sunday, July 12.
  • The project is a 12 km corridor that will link Sheikh Zayed Road with Al Khail Road, Al Meydan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road to boost east–west connectivity.
  • Design specifications published by the RTA call for seven bridges totaling 2.3 km, eight tunnels totaling 900 m, Latifa bint Hamdan Street widened to four lanes each way, and multilevel free‑flow interchanges.
  • RTA projects the corridor will handle about 16,000 vehicles per hour, accommodate roughly 130,000 trips a day, cut travel time between Umm Al Sheif Street and Emirates Road from 33 minutes to 15 minutes, and be completed by the end of 2028.
  • The scheme includes 12.5 km of cycling tracks tied into Dubai’s existing network and is presented as part of long-term planning under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan to ease pressure on busy roads and support new developments.
