Dubai Airports to Drop Check-In for Hand-Luggage Travelers in Frictionless Travel Push

The overhaul supports growth targets ahead of DXB’s planned move to Al Maktoum in 2032.

Overview

  • CEO Paul Griffiths said at the Dubai Airshow that passengers with only hand baggage will be able to bypass check-in as new processes roll out over the next few years.
  • Dubai International has already replaced manual immigration with cameras that conduct facial recognition on every customer.
  • A new AI-powered “red carpet” corridor in Terminal 3 processes departures in seconds without passport or boarding pass checks, currently limited to Business Class with expansion planned.
  • Griffiths said the aim is to speed flows and raise capacity through process removal, citing potential fourfold throughput gains without building new infrastructure.
  • Dubai Airports projects crossing 100 million passengers within two years, reaching 114 million in 2031, and shifting DXB operations to Al Maktoum in 2032 toward a long-term capacity of up to 260 million.
