  • Duane Arlen John Nepoose pleaded guilty in Calgary Court of Justice to dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, three dangerous operation causing bodily harm counts, robbery and flight-from-police charges.
  • Court heard that he robbed a Millrise pharmacy, stole the owner’s Dodge Caravan and led Calgary police on a high-speed chase tracked by the HAWCS helicopter.
  • The stolen van reached about 170 km/h and ran red lights at several intersections before colliding with vehicles at Macleod Trail and Southland Drive.
  • Nine-year-old Victoria Desjardins died of untreatable neurological injuries following emergency surgery, and her mother, Amanda Reitmeier, and sister Madison suffered serious injuries.
  • A June 13 sentencing hearing will include a presentence report on Nepoose’s Indigenous background, a psychiatric risk assessment and victim impact statements from the family.
