DTEK and Fluence Put 200MW Battery Portfolio Into Operation in Ukraine

Fast-tracked systems aim to strengthen grid resilience before winter.

Overview

  • Six battery sites totaling 200 MW and 400 MWh are online in the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions to deliver ancillary services to Ukrenergo.
  • Units range from 20 MW to 50 MW each, providing short-duration support equivalent to powering about 600,000 homes for two hours.
  • DTEK invested €125 million, with Ukraine’s state savings bank providing project financing for five of the installations.
  • Construction ran from March to August 2025 with commissioning starting in July, which DTEK said was significantly faster than typical industry timelines.
  • Fluence supplied technology, executed remote commissioning due to wartime constraints, and trained 20 Ukrainian engineers at company sites in Germany and Finland as part of DTEK’s broader 500 MW storage rollout.
