Overview
- The DTCC launched the Tokenization Service on Wednesday, Oct. 28, making 34 eligible securities worth about $30 trillion available to 20 institutional participants that have signed access agreements.
- Each token is a one-to-one digital representation of a security that stays backed by the underlying asset held at the Depository Trust Company, with DTC remaining the authoritative record of ownership and investor protections.
- The live service runs on the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Hyperledger Besu network today, with planned integrations to public chains such as Stellar and Circle/Arc scheduled for 2027.
- Access is permissioned and limited to eligible DTC participants and registered wallets, and reporting differs on operational details like transfer windows and whether movements will be fully 24/7, making operational rules a near-term watch point.
- The rollout follows a December 2025 SEC no-action letter and phased pilots in 2026, and it could speed collateral mobility and settlement for banks and custodians while raising practical questions about corporate actions, cross-chain registry integrity, and expansion of the eligible asset list.
