Overview
- DTCC announced the Tokenization Service on Oct. 28, 2026, letting eligible DTC participants convert covered holdings into 1:1 blockchain “digital twins” while the original securities remain custodied at DTC.
- The initial menu lists roughly 25 to 34 instruments covering an estimated $30 trillion of eligible assets, with DTC keeping CUSIPs and the authoritative ownership registry.
- More than 20 DTC members, including major banks such as JPMorgan, Citi, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley and UBS, have signed access agreements to use the system.
- The live service connects to the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Hyperledger Besu node now, with planned integrations to other networks such as Stellar and Circle’s Arc in 2027, and the rollout follows July 2026 pilots with over 30 firms.
- Reporting differs on transfer mechanics: some coverage says transfers occur 24/7 between registered wallets while other reports say transfers are limited to a scheduled window, making operational hours and cross-chain registry coordination key variables to watch.
