Overview
- DTCC put its Tokenization Service into production on October 28, 2026, supporting 34 eligible securities worth about $30 trillion and operating on the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Hyperledger Besu network.
- Twenty DTC participant firms have signed access agreements at launch, including JPMorgan, Citi, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, UBS and Fidelity, with more institutions expected to join.
- Each token is backed one-for-one by the underlying security held in DTC custody, carries the original CUSIP, and leaves DTC as the authoritative owner registry while permitting onchain transfers between registered wallets.
- DTCC targets short conversion times from traditional to tokenized form and around-the-clock movement subject to compliance rules, and it plans 2027 additions for public chains such as Stellar and Circle’s Arc plus tools for corporate actions, digital-cash settlement and collateral use.
- The rollout follows a December 2025 SEC no-action letter and months of industry pilots with more than 30 firms, making this a controlled, institutional-first step that aims to speed transfers and settlement without replacing existing market recordkeeping.
