DSV Director Urges Fixes to Predazzo Olympic Hill After Three ACL Injuries

The governing body is weighing targeted changes to reduce landing loads after three ACL ruptures at the remodeled venue.

Overview

  • German sport director Horst Hüttel called the Predazzo normal hill “not well executed” and said FIS should reassess hill construction guidelines.
  • He proposed flattening the schanzentisch by about 0.5 degrees to soften the flight trajectory and lower landing forces.
  • Hüttel also urged safety-focused adjustments for women, such as enlarging suit volume or modifying stride-length rules, and said action should not be delayed.
  • FIS’s autumn session is underway with competition regulations on the agenda following the injuries to Alexandria Loutitt, Eva Pinkelnig and Haruka Kasai.
  • Former champion Martin Schmitt cited higher landing pressure and a steeper flight curve at Predazzo, questioned the Telemark landing as unsafe, and noted women’s higher baseline ACL risk.
