Overview
- Netflix announced Monday that it has signed a multiyear development agreement with comedian Druski and his 4LIFERS Entertainment to produce several original projects exclusively for the streamer.
- The first project under the deal, the semi-scripted comedy Collect & Praise starring Druski and Mike Epps, was acquired after being self-funded by Druski and is set to premiere on Dec. 1.
- The agreement is reported to be structured around a defined number of projects rather than a traditional overall or first-look deal, and Netflix will also license select short-form titles from Druski’s catalog, including Coulda Been Love, Coulda Been Daddy and Coulda Been Records Auditions.
- Druski arrives with a built-in audience and industry momentum—his YouTube and social series have amassed large cumulative view counts, he is represented by WME which brokered the deal, and he will host Saturday Night Live on Nov. 7—creating an immediate promotional window for the Netflix rollout.
- The deal illustrates a growing streamer strategy of turning creator-owned, short-form IP into long-form content and suggests alternative financing and negotiation paths that could give prominent creators more leverage and platforms faster access to proven audiences.
