Drug Smuggling Operations Busted at Texas Border
U.S. Customs and Border Protection seize over 130 pounds of narcotics in multiple operations.
- Michelle Chavira Romero and Omar Antonio Gasson Zamora were arrested at the Ysleta Port of Entry in El Paso in a Nissan Juke carrying a combined 58 pounds of crystal meth and cocaine in hidden compartments.
- Chavira told Homeland Security Investigations agents that Gasson hired her to accompany him at the border on the premise that would make him less likely to be questioned too much by CBP.
- Chavira allegedly said she had made two previous drug runs with Gasson from Juarez to the United States, and was promised a straight-up $1,000 payment for this run.
- U.S. Customs and Border Protections officers working at the Paso Del Norte and Bride of Americas border crossings seized a total of 73 pounds of fentanyl and methamphetamine on four separate failed smuggling attempts.
- Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized a haul of narcotics in Texas valued at $1.3 million, including 142.85 pounds of alleged methamphetamine.
