Overview

  • Preston Crown Court sentenced Daniel Burba on August 5 to 10 years in prison and banned him from driving for 14 years and five months.
  • Police released CCTV footage showing Burba’s van swerving erratically with hazard lights flashing and his visit to a petrol station minutes before the crash.
  • Blood tests found Burba was four times over the legal cocaine limit and a paramedic discovered a bag of cocaine in his wallet after he suffered an epileptic fit at the wheel.
  • Burba had been warned in October 2014 and again in February 2025 to stop using cocaine, refrain from driving and notify the DVLA because of his epilepsy.
  • The April 20 collision between junctions 34 and 33 near Lancaster killed his 14-year-old son and led to a prolonged M6 closure for a police investigation.
