Overview
- Dropbox will shift Dropbox Passwords to view-only mode on August 28, disable the mobile app on September 11, and fully shut down the service on October 28, 2025
- After the final shutdown, all stored usernames, passwords and payment information will be permanently and securely deleted from Dropbox’s servers
- Users are urged to export their data ahead of each milestone and migrate to another password manager, with 1Password recommended and detailed export guides provided
- Dropbox has begun sending reminder emails and in-app notifications to individuals and team admins to ensure timely data exports
- The discontinuation reflects intensifying competition from standalone managers like 1Password and LastPass and built-in vaults from Apple, Microsoft and Google, and a strategic refocus on Dropbox’s core file-storage and collaboration tools
