Overview
- Russia’s aviation regulator imposed temporary restrictions at airports in Volgograd, Saratov and Kaluga late on Oct. 3, then briefly at Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan on Oct. 4, before lifting them after safety checks.
- Munich Airport halted operations twice within 24 hours due to drone sightings and then resumed flights with ongoing delays, with 23 diversions, 12 arrival cancellations, 46 disrupted departures and about 6,500 passengers stranded overnight.
- German police say the drones over Munich could not be identified because they turned away upon detection, and the Bundeswehr is now assisting the airport with drone detection at the request of Bavarian authorities.
- Bild reports the UAVs over Munich were military reconnaissance drones and says police separately detained a 41-year-old Croatian operating a drone near Frankfurt Airport, which remains under investigation.
- Russia’s Defense Ministry reported 20 Ukrainian-type drones shot down over Belgorod, Bryansk and Oryol regions, while Belgorod’s governor cited more than 70 shells, over 100 UAV attacks, casualties and damage, and DNR authorities reported civilian injuries from seven shelling incidents.
