Overview
- Drones struck the Slavneft-YANOS refinery in Yaroslavl, causing a large blaze on the night of 2–3 November that was captured in photos and videos and reported by local officials and monitoring channels.
- Yaroslavl Oblast Governor Mikhail Yevrayev and OSINT analysts working with Astra identified the burning site as the Slavneft-YANOS plant, and local air-raid alerts reported a drone threat followed later by a missile warning.
- The refinery is owned by Slavneft, which is jointly controlled by Rosneft and Gazprom Neft, and it refines petrol, diesel, aviation kerosene and other products used in Central and Northwestern Russia.
- The plant supplies fuel to Moscow Oblast and facilities in Russia's defence sector, including fuel for military aircraft and equipment, which means damage could affect military mobility and readiness.
- The Yaroslavl site has been hit before, most recently in late September, so observers say repeated attacks on this refinery may signal a sustained effort to degrade Russian fuel nodes and should be watched for effects on local fuel supplies and transport.
