Drone Strikes Hit Greek-Managed Tankers Near Black Sea CPC Terminal

Export capacity in Kazakhstan is curtailed with responsibility for the attacks still unclear.

Overview

  • Three tankers were reported struck near the Yuzhnaya Ozereyevka terminal as they sailed to load Kazakh crude, according to multiple sources, with CPC declining comment and Ukraine offering no immediate response.
  • Thenamaris said the Matilda was hit by two drones with minor, repairable deck damage and no injuries, and maritime security sources said a brief onboard fire was extinguished.
  • Delta Harmony and Delta Supreme, both managed by Delta Tankers, were among the vessels targeted, with one expected to load oil from Chevron-linked Tengizchevroil.
  • TMS denied that the initially reported fourth vessel, the Freud, had been hit, and Chevron said a chartered tanker’s crew was safe and the ship was proceeding to a safe port.
  • Kazakhstan’s oil and condensate output fell about 35% in January 1–12 versus December’s average as exports were constrained, with CPC continuing limited loadings via a single mooring and shipping and insurance risks seen rising.
