Drone-Led River Interdictions on Río Bermejo Seize 7.3 Kilos of Cocaine, 3.9 Tons of Coca Leaves and 69,500 Cigarette Packs

The haul was turned over to federal prosecutors in Orán for proceedings under narcotics and customs statutes.

Overview

  • In coordinated actions by Gendarmería’s Escuadrón 20 “Orán,” drone surveillance spotted two rafts and guided rapid interdictions about 30 minutes apart on the Río Bermejo.
  • In the first operation, officers opened 127 bultos and found 2,000 kilos of coca leaves and 27,000 packs of cigarettes after those transporting the cargo abandoned it and swam to the opposite bank.
  • The second operation recovered 7.284 kilos of cocaine packaged in seven yellow-nylon bricks with a dolphin stamp, plus 1,870 kilos of coca leaves and 42,500 cigarette packs.
  • The Sección “28 de Julio” led the seizures with support from the Unidad de Aviación “Orán” and the Unidades de Reconocimientos “Santiago del Estero” and “Mosconi,” securing the rafts on the Argentine side.
  • Prosecutors from the Fiscalía Federal Descentralizada de Orán authorized the seizures under Laws 23.737 and 22.415, while a separate bus check in Santiago del Estero yielded 510 grams of marijuana and one detention.
