DroidDeck Lets Android Phones Run Steam PC Games Locally

Early demonstrations show playable framerates on high-end Snapdragon phones.

Overview

  • DroidDeck is a free, open-source app that boots Valve’s ARM64 Steam client on Android so users can download and run Steam PC games locally without a separate PC or streaming service.
  • The project uses Proton for Windows compatibility and FEX to translate x86 instructions to ARM, and it does not require rooting but does require enabling developer options, disabling Android’s child-process restrictions, and installing a roughly 3GB Linux runtime.
  • Public demos and tests in early October showed wide variation by device, with ETA PRIME’s REDMAGIC 11 Pro demo hitting about 60 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 at 720p and Tom’s Guide testing on an Honor Magic V6 reporting mixed results such as Hades II ~48 FPS, Portal 2 ~65 FPS, and Cyberpunk 2077 ~35 FPS.
  • DroidDeck exposes Steam features on phones including Steam Input, performance overlays, GPU driver tuning, and image upscaling/frame generation (AMD FSR, Snapdragon GSR, Lossless Scaling), and it can add non‑Steam stores like GOG and Epic as launchable titles.
  • The software is experimental and under active development, with compatibility and thermal limits tied to each phone’s GPU and cooling, and continued updates will determine whether local PC gaming on phones becomes a practical option for more users.
