Driver’s Body Recovered After Car Plunges Into Parramatta River in Sydney

Police divers recovered the body of an 86-year-old man hours after his car crashed through a fence, struck his wife, and sank near a popular fishing spot.

  • The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when a car accelerated through a car park, hit a 74-year-old woman, and plunged into the Parramatta River near Manns Point in Greenwich, Sydney.
  • Emergency services launched an extensive response, including police divers, to locate the submerged vehicle and its driver in waters up to 10 meters deep.
  • The body of the 86-year-old driver was recovered around 6:30pm, approximately two hours after the underwater search began.
  • The driver’s wife, who sustained injuries including a suspected broken ankle, was rescued by passersby and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment.
