Overview

• On July 22, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman filed 37 counts of attempted murder and 37 counts of assault with a deadly weapon against 29-year-old Fernando Ramirez, who is held without bail and awaiting arraignment.
• Surveillance video shows Ramirez driving a compact sedan onto the sidewalk outside the Vermont Hollywood nightclub on July 19, injuring at least 36 people and causing serious fractures and lacerations for eight victims.
• After the crash, bystanders pulled Ramirez from his vehicle and attacked him before an unidentified Hispanic man shot him once in the lower back and fled the scene.
• LAPD has released surveillance photos of the suspected shooter—a 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7 male wearing a blue Dodgers jacket and light blue No. 5 jersey—and is asking the public to call Rampart Division or Crime Stoppers with tips.
• Ramirez was on parole at the time of the incident and has a decade-long record including gang-related assault, a 2019 hate crime conviction and domestic violence charges; he faces potential life sentences if convicted on all counts.
