Overview

  • Police say a vehicle left the road around 10:14–10:15 p.m. and struck guests gathered under a tent on the 4100 block of 56th Avenue in Bladensburg.
  • Ashley Hernandez Gutierrez, 31, of Washington, D.C., died from her injuries, and eight children ages 1 to 17 were among those hurt.
  • The driver fled on foot Saturday night and turned himself in Sunday; he was interviewed by investigators, with criminal charges pending following consultation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney.
  • Six children have been treated and released, one child remains hospitalized in stable condition, and among adults three are admitted in stable condition, one is pending treatment, and one has been released.
  • Bladensburg police are leading the fatal hit-and-run investigation with county assistance, closed nearby roads during the response, and asked anyone with information to call 301-864-6080.
