Overview
- Ashir Shahid was sentenced at Preston Crown Court to 13 years’ detention for causing death by dangerous driving and serious injury by dangerous driving, with a two-thirds minimum term and a 15-year driving disqualification requiring an extended retest.
- Victim Renju Joseph underwent an emergency C-section after the collision; her baby survived only hours and she now lives with a brain bleed, spinal fractures, multiple broken bones and ongoing mobility and emotional challenges.
- Investigators presented mobile-phone videos of the driver and passenger laughing and singing at speeds of 58–71mph in a 30mph zone, plus evidence of voice notes and an online search about hit-and-run charges following the crash.
