Overview
- Idaho State Police reported that pickup driver Isaih Moreno had a blood alcohol content of 0.20, more than twice Idaho’s 0.08 legal limit.
- Moreno’s Dodge Ram crossed the center line on U.S. Highway 20 on May 1 and collided head-on with a Mercedes tour van carrying 14 people between Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks.
- The crash and ensuing fires killed Moreno and six van occupants from China, Italy and California, and left multiple survivors hospitalized.
- The collision occurred just before Idaho’s “100 Deadliest Days,” a period of rising summer traffic fatalities linked to increased travel and holiday weekends.
- Authorities cautioned that alcohol-related crashes remain a leading cause of traffic deaths in Idaho and urged drivers to speak up if they see someone unfit to drive.
