Driver Held Without Bail After Prosecutors Detail Tequila, Guns in Fatal Chinatown Crash

  • Autumn Donna Ascencio Romero was arraigned Tuesday on murder, manslaughter and aggravated vehicular homicide charges and ordered held without bail.
  • Prosecutors said Romero admitted to having “a few drinks” before driving the stolen rental car and refused to submit to blood or breathalyzer tests.
  • Investigators found an open tequila bottle and a travel cup of alcohol in the front seat of the wrecked Chevy Malibu along with two 9 mm pistols and a box of ammunition in the trunk.
  • Romero and her passenger, Kennedy Lecraft, tried to hail a cab to escape the crash scene and were stopped by eyewitnesses before police arrival.
  • Lecraft has been charged with weapon possession, possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle in connection with the stolen rental.
