Driver Flees After Dragging and Burying Hit-Run Victim in Bihar; Accomplice Arrested

After arresting an accomplice, police exhumed the victim’s remains to bolster a manhunt that relies on CCTV footage aided by canine teams

Overview

  • The vehicle struck the couple at about 4:30 am on June 3 near Chakla Chowk on the Sonbarsa-Baidyanathpur road, instantly killing 55-year-old Shyama Devi and trapping her husband under the speeding car.
  • Driver Keshav Kumar Singh allegedly dragged 60-year-old Bharat Ram for several kilometers before stopping near Jivachhpur and using sacks and an excavator to bury his body.
  • Sunil Kumar was arrested on June 4 for helping to conceal the remains by arranging sacks and directing the excavator operator at the burial site.
  • A Special Investigation Team has seized the car, reviewed over 14 km of CCTV footage, deployed a technical unit, and pressed a dog squad into service to reconstruct the suspect’s route.
  • The exhumed remains have been sent for autopsy as authorities intensify their manhunt for the absconding driver, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
