Driver Fatally Shot After Crashing Truck Through Texas Mall, Injuring Five

The incident began Saturday evening when police pursued reports of an erratic, possibly intoxicated driver near Belton, Texas.
The suspect, identified as John Darrel Schultz, 53, drove his truck into the Killeen Mall, crashing through the glass doors of a JCPenney and continuing several hundred yards inside.
Five people, ranging in age from 6 to 75, were injured, with four transported to hospitals and one self-reporting for treatment.
Law enforcement, including off-duty officers at the mall, engaged the suspect in gunfire, fatally shooting him to prevent further harm.
Authorities confirmed there was no active shooter, dispelling initial rumors, and emphasized the Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
